The two main foes of unhappiness are boredom and pain

Pain is pretty self explanatory, but boredom is the real killer. Boredom leads to vices, unnecessary pleasures, mischief and addictions.

This explains why a rich man can be very unhappy while a poor man is filled with joy. The poor man is occupied, he’s struggling yes, but staying away from boredom. Now the rich man has everything taken care of, so boredom lurks just around the corner
